After an amazing year full of royalty, honours and great publicity, we are ready to welcome in 2017 and see what it has to offer! We have big and bold plans for this year, here is a brief outline of what we hope to achieve by the end of it:
Starting in just three weeks time, we will be hosting an array of colourful events to welcome and include the LGBT+ community in and around Britain. The first date in our inclusive calendar is Tuesday 24th January, we will be hosting an evening of poetry reading, a book launch and a Q&A session with LGBT Poet Laureate Trudy Howson and author CJ Atkinson. Our events are a way for us to work together to promote equality and inclusion and work towards eradicating homophobia, biphobia and transphobia from both our classrooms and our social spheres.
While we will be hosting open nights, free to the public and open to children, young people and students; we will also be expanding our PRIDE networks across British schools, colleges and universities.
By 2018 we hope to have created more than 50 networks of young people in our schools to help increase the visibility of LGBT+ identities and create safe spaces for teaching and discussion. Our PRIDE Youth Networks that have so far been installed in schools in the UK have helped to create #momentsofchange such as gender-neutral uniforms and toilets.
While we can’t wait to meet all of our new volunteers and students, we can’t wait to open our arms and welcome our new schools onto the Best Practice Programme which will see the Educate & Celebrate message being spread even further afield.
So lets raise a cup of tea (as it is rather early) to 2017, our biggest and best year yet.
