Charlie is preparing to complete the Great North Run in September 2017 to raise money for us so we can continue to transform schools into LGBT+Friendly places! The Great North Run is the largest half marathon in the world, taking place annually in North East England each September. Participants run between Newcastle upon Tyne and South Shields. It is Charlie’s first half marathon. We asked Charlie what has motivated him to do the run:
Personally, I feel this goal is not only achievable but also vital in this time of increased awareness of the struggles of people from minorities of all kinds. Allowing our kids to be more aware of LGBT+ peoples not only gives them the opportunity to be more accepting of those different to them, but also supports those who are LGBT+ to feel less isolated and able to present themselves in the way they feel most comfortable.
I have already started my training early for this run to build up my strength from a relatively dry spell of running. I’m already feeling the pain! Any donation you are able to give will be massively appreciated by both me and Educate & Celebrate. If you are able to Giftaid your donation, that would be amazing. I hope to exceed the £300 target I have set!
Dr Elly Barnes MBE, CEO said ‘Thank you Charlie for choosing us! We are thrilled to have you support, every penny donated will allow us to continue our much needed work to eradicate homophobia, biphobia and transphobia from our schools and workplaces.’
