The Conservative Government has announced the long-awaited plans for reforming the Gender Recognition Act. They will follow three “very important principles”: protecting single-sex spaces, allowing trans people to live without fear of persecution whilst maintaining “proper checks and balances”, and protecting under-18s from making “irreversible decisions”.
There is a huge concern that the language used is very similar to the anti-trans rhetoric used by transphobic hate groups.
Therefore we would urge you to voice your concerns to the proposals by Liz Truss MP. We await them to be debated.
You can have your voice heard in several ways:
- Go to the #TRUSSTME campaign and use the template to compose your letter to Boris Johnson. You can see our response HERE
- You can tweet @BorisJohson @TrussLiz and @10DowningStreet
- Email your local MP
Together we can build a future of inclusion by supporting the validity of trans identities; moreover protect the dignity of one of the most marginalised groups in this country.
